Have you ever sat through a sermon, and early on, you felt like the preacher was talking directly to you? I’ve felt that a few different times in church, but last Sunday, it was the strongest feeling ever! It also confirmed my idea to become a member at said church, which me, my husband and daughter did at the end of service altar call. First, I will summarize what I took from the entire Sunday message, and then I will share why I feel it was Jesus talking directly to me. We are still in the Book of Luke and read through chapter 9. In this chapter, the Jews rejected the Mesiah, Jesus, so now disciples needed to take it to the gentiles, or the rest of the world (us!). We heard about King Herod rejecting the gospel so many times, that God finally moved on from him, or ‘dusted his feet off’.
“If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” Luke 9:5.
I have had to remind myself this several times! Especially when I know the Goodness of God, and I feel like others don’t fully appreciate it, or just that they aren’t on the same level as I am. I’ve had to learn – it’s okay! Don’t force it! I know it can be super hard to not force it on others, but we have to remember, we are not God! That’s His job! All we need to do, is plant the seeds and live a life that makes other people curious about our relationship with God.
Another good point made by our pastor, is to travel light in this life. He used the example of packing so light for mission trips, that the women on the trip worried he didn’t pack enough. But the point in this, is this worldly life is temporary! Many people think they need to build up so much material possessions in life – the newest and best car, the biggest house, the best paying job but that is NOT what we need to work on in this life! The only thing that really needs to be worked on in this life is our treasures in heaven! Because those are eternal treasures. We need to serve the Lord and focus on that! Because that’s what builds up our eternal treasures. In order to reach happiness in this life, we must learn contentment. Jesus told his disciples, “Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.” Luke 9:4 – meaning you don’t need to go to the biggest and most expensive house to serve the Lord! This hit home for me personally, because I am always on Zillow looking for bigger, better houses and I have no reason to want a bigger and better house. God has provided my family with a house that we can eat and sleep in, it has been paid for fully, and we live in a wonderful neighborhood with great neighbors, so why am I even looking? It is a fleshly desire that I need to forget about! I know I’m human and I will have fleshly desires, but I’m working on not letting those take over.
A few various times in the sermon, our preacher talked about ministry (he actually said something about it early on which I felt shined right on me with this new online ministry). He went over the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish, found in Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-14. The pastor actually mentioned a specific part that I had never considered before. Have you noticed how it includes in the end of the story, that the disciples had twelve baskets of leftovers, and it is mentioned in each account of the Bible how they collected the leftovers? Jesus blessed the people with such an abundance of what they needed, there was plenty left over for others who hungered! What we take from this, is that we do not ever waste what God has given us! Others are hungry for the word of God; we need to provide it! God has given me a testimony (actually more than one testimony in different parts of my life), God has given me a source in telling others, so this is me using what God has given me! He has put it on my heart to start this online ministry for Him, so I am trusting my faith in Jesus Christ to help me grow this page! I had a full-time job (working 8-5), plus a five-year-old daughter with plenty of extra-curricular stuff to do after school, when I started getting the idea for this ministry. I prayed to God, please lord help me! Help me make time to study your word and get the opportunity to share with others and be your disciple! Not long after this prayer, my husband tells me I should be a SAHM. What? Me? Not working? I thought he was crazy! But, guess what? God did His thing, and I was finally convinced it would be okay – he blessed me with a husband who is able to provide financially without me working full time, my mother owns her own business so I can do some work for her to have some spending money, I can also spread the word of Jesus even more through this (we make t-shirts! be on the lookout for Christ-centered t-shirts soon!). My previous job was at an accounting firm, so if I end up needing to work in the future, there is plenty of remote work I could do. So, why not? Starting in November 2025, I became a SAHM with plenty of time to spread the good news of Jesus Christ! I am so blessed and thankful to God!
We also learned in this sermon, sometimes we have interruptions in life. It is easy to think negatively of these ‘interruptions’ because life isn’t going the way we planned. BUT what if we view these interruptions as opportunities instead? My preacher said this at the very end of the sermon, and it was such a light to me! I’d never considered it before, but it makes so much sense now! I think back to all the times my life has been interrupted (my wreck, my marriage, pregnancy, college, work) and I am going to now view these as opportunities to share with others how God has worked so gloriously and mercifully in my life! I hate I had to wait so long from Sunday to post, because I definitely felt the spirit of the Lord in church that morning! I feel his presence as I type today too, so I know I am doing what he has called me to do. Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you have gained something from it! I pray Jesus gives me the right words to say and leads the people that need to hear it to my post! This is JESUS’ MINISTRY! Not mine, I’m just the blogger 🙂 Follow me on Facebook too! –> Facebook
